Love One Another

In today’s Gospel Jesus makes a bold and clear statement to his disciples. “I give you a new commandment: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you also should love one another. This is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

We are called to love others as a sign of our discipleship in Jesus Christ. That includes even those “others” we might prefer to forget. We are so often tempted to draw lines between those who we will love and those who we consider not worthy of our love. This week take time to reflect on Jesus’ love command. How often do we heed Jesus’ love command? What change in our lives must take place in order for us to obey this command?

En el Evangelio de hoy Jesús hace una declaración audaz y clara a sus discípulos. “Os doy un mandamiento nuevo: amaos los unos a los otros. Así como yo los he amado, así también ustedes deben amarse unos a otros. Así es como todos sabrán que son mis discípulos, si se aman los unos a los otros.”

Amaos unos a otros

Nosotros estamos llamados a amar a los demás como un signo de nuestro discipulado en Jesucristo. Esto incluye aún a esos “otros” que tal vez preferiríamos olvidar. A menudo nos sentimos tentados a marcar líneas entre aquellos que amaremos y aquellos a quienes nosotros consideramos que no son dignos de nuestro amor. Esta semana tome un tiempo para reflexionar acerca del mandamiento de amor de Jesús. ¿Con qué frecuencia prestamos atención al mandamiento de amor de Jesús? ¿Qué cambio en nuestras vidas debe tener lugar para que podamos obedecer este mandamiento?
