A Reflection

The gospel reading from Luke quoting Jesus: “Do not be afraid. Gird your loins. Sell your goods and give generously to those in need. Don your traveling clothes; keep the porch light on; stay by the door awaiting your Master’s return.”

To quote Sr. Mary McGlone, CSJ, “What Jesus asked of his disciples – to give away their goods, to be on the move, be ready for what is coming rather than be satisfied with what is, all of that is an invitation to put faith into action.”

I hear Jesus saying to his disciples, be vigilant of God’s action in your life. How is the Holy Spirit speaking to you? Be ready to “spring into action” when the Lord calls you to be faithful to him and to care for those in need. Jesus says “be not afraid” and share the gifts you have received. This leads one to have spiritual freedom; to not be possessed by worldly things.

Pope Francis says, “Human beings are so made that they cannot live, develop and find fulfillment except in the sincere gift of self to others”.
