A Gospel Reflection

The gospel reading for today is very familiar to us. It is the story of the Prodigal Son. The late Fr. Henri Nouwen (1932-1996) wrote a renowned book, "The Return of the Prodigal Son."

Here is a quote from Nouwen's book.

"The leap of faith....banquet."

“The leap of faith always means loving without expecting to be loved in return, giving without wanting to receive, inviting without hoping to be invited, holding without asking to be held. And every time I make a little leap, I catch a glimpse of the One who runs out to me and invites me into his joy, the joy in which I can find not only myself, but also my brothers and sisters. Thus the disciplines of trust and gratitude reveal the God who searches for me, burning with desire to take away all my resentments and complaints and to let me sit at his side at the heavenly banquet."

La lectura del evangelio de hoy nos resulta muy familiar. Es la historia del hijo pródigo. El difunto p. Henri Nouwen (1932-1996) escribió un libro de nombre, "El Regreso del Hijo Pródigo".

Aquí les dejo un párrafo de su renombrado libro.

"El acto de fe....banquete".

“El acto de fe siempre significa amar sin esperar ser amado a cambio, dar sin querer recibir, invitar sin esperar ser invitado, sostener sin pedir ser sostenido. Y cada vez que doy un pequeño salto, veo a aquel que corre hacia mí y me invita a su alegría, la alegría en la que puedo encontrarme no solo a mí mismo, sino también a mis hermanos y hermanas. Así las disciplinas de la confianza y la gratitud revelan al Dios que me busca, ardiendo en deseos de quitar todos mis resentimientos y quejas y dejarme sentarme a su lado en el banquete celestial”.
