Welcome to St. Francis Xavier Parish!
Dear Parishioners and Friends,
Thank you for visiting the St. Francis Xavier Parish website. We’ve provided a broad brush stroke of our parish community and ministries throughout these web links. We encourage you to linger and learn about who we are.
St. Francis Xavier Parish is the only Jesuit Parish of the Diocese of Phoenix. Administered by the Jesuit Fathers of the Jesuit West Province, (jesuitswest.org) our church has become an iconic symbol of the Catholic faith for nearly 90 years. After a precedent setting capital campaign to raise funds – one dollar at a time and door-to-door – the church building opened in 1959. With the capacity to seat 1,500 people, St. Francis Xavier church is open daily for the celebration of mass, sacraments and private prayer. The past ten years have seen buildings on our campus change as our current Capital Campaign has evolved. More about that later…
Our faith community continues to grow, currently serving more than 6,000 registered households, and thousands more through our varied ministries. Our most significant ministry, St. Francis Xavier Elementary school, is the only Jesuit elementary school in Arizona engaging 650 students each year – pre-K through Eighth grade – incorporating Jesuit traditions and Ignatian spirituality. Students here aim to be Loving, Open to Growth, Intellectually Competent, Religious, and Committed to Doing Justice. We are dedicated to forming “Kids for Others.”
St. Ignatius, the founder of the Jesuits, believed that a strong educational foundation was vital to a strong spiritual foundation and set about creating a network of institutions that would educate future leaders of the Church and the world. Here, we manifest that belief through age appropriate programming. Our Catechesis of the Good Shepherd offers faith formation to children three-years-of-age through Fifth grade who do not attend the elementary school. The Edge and Life Teen programs continue formation, enrichment and the opportunity to expand a knowledge and love of the Catholic faith throughout high school. Adult Faith Formation programs, retreats and missions complete the outreach programs we offer here at St. Francis.
Beyond our education and faith formation, we also offer nearly 60 varied ministries, collaborate with more than 50 local non-profit entities, and engage nearly 2,000 volunteers each year. Through these partnerships, we manage more than 170 programs, and serve more than 30,000 individuals, to include our parishioners, students, area residents and the community at large.
I previously mentioned our Capital Campaign. In 2007 we initiated this campaign to build a new elementary school, gym and parish center. Through the generosity of many, we dedicated the School and Education Outreach Center in 2013. With the further support of generous benefactors we were able to construct our parish hall, Anderson Hall, and new administrative center; this complex was dedicated in January of 2016. We ask for your prayers and support as we strive to retire the remaining balance -- 10% of the overall campaign -- $2.9 million. Please contact our office of Benefactor Relations, Mrs. Laura Jordan, 602-212-4514, if you are interested in learning more, or are able to make a donation.
Evangelization and the celebration of the sacraments are of primary concern for us all as we strive to live and spread the Good News. The principles of Ignatian spirituality guide all our efforts here at St. Francis Xavier, as we seek to bring people closer, to a more personal relationship with Christ.
If you have any questions that the website does not answer, please call the parish center, 602-279-9547, so that we can assist you.
God bless you and your family.
