SFXAA/Athletic Association

Our Mission statement is to be a positive force in promoting Ignatian spirituality by providing a forum for community outreach and social interaction through athletics.

The program promotes a Christian atmosphere in which athletes grow in respect and concern for others in their own environment as well as in society as a whole. Emphasis is placed on the development of game fundamentals and encouraging athletes to give their best while competing. The ultimate objective of the program is for the athletes to improve their skills while learning sportsmanship and having fun. We operate leagues year round on the school fields for children 4-14 and soon for adults and young adults.

Volunteer Athletic Association

The SFXAA, formerly known as the St. Francis Xavier Little League was started in 1956 by Don Woods and Art Whitney. After seeking the donation of some vacant property (located between Brophy College Preparatory and Xavier College Preparatory) from the St. Francis Xavier Parish, parents and neighborhood children spent days clearing the vacant land of rocks and weeds to begin the construction of what ultimately became two ball fields for boys baseball and girls softball leagues. For 50 years, this all volunteer community based league has served literally thousands of youth who have wanted to play the games of baseball and softball.

The SFXAA has grown from just a baseball league to an athletic association that provides a T-ball league, boys baseball, girls softball, youth soccer, and a fall baseball league. Soon they hope to provide both basketball and lacrosse offering year-round sports opportunities for inner-city youth. In 1956, approximately 40 youths played in the league. The league is expected to have approximately 900 youths playing this year!
